Pt. Deen Daya Upadhyaya
was born on 25th Sept. 1916 in a traditional family. He lost
his parents during his early childhood, but he continued his
studies as a shining student. He obtained gold medals both
at the Matriculation Board Exam in 1935 and Intermediate Board
Exam in 1937. Later he did his B.A. and B.T. from Kanpur University.
He even qualified the Civil Service Exam; but he didn't join
civil services as he fascinated by the idea of making for
and working with the common people. Pt. Upadhyaya was gifted
with a multi-faceted personality. He was an extraordinary
organizer, social thinker and philosopher. He joined Rashtriya
Swayamsevak Sangh as a Pracharak and later organized Sangh's
activity in Uttar Pradesh inspired by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.

Pt. Upadhyaya entered politics
in 1951 and was appointed as the All India General Secratery
of Bhartiya Janasangh. Soon he was counted among the national
leaders. In 1967, he was elected president of the same party
and led the party to number two position at the national level
in General Election (1967). But his life was cut short by
the unknown hands on 11th February,1968 at Mugal Sarai Railway
yard where was found dead.
Pt. Upadhyaya is well known for his idea as INTEGRAL HUMANISM
- the concept which is deeply embedded in Indian Psyche. The
philosophy of integral Humanism advocate the simultaneous
and integrated program of the body, mind and intellect and
soul of each human being. Pt.Upadhyaya also propagated that
Indian culture is holistic because of its integrated viewpoint
'Unity is Diversity' is the cornerstone of Indian culture.
These views of Pt. Upadhyaya continue to be relevant under
the present socio economic and political atmosphere is the
country.
Pt. Upadhyaya was a great journalist, thinker and writer.
He was associated with a number of monthlies, weeklies and
dailies as ‘editor’. At the same time, he produced
articles and books which were widely acclaimed around the
world. He will always be remembered for his publications including
“The Two Plans”, “Political Diary”,
“Devaluation and Indian Economic Policy”, “Samrat
ChandraGupta”, “Jagadguru Shankracharya”
and “Integral Humanism”.
